About me

I am Cristina Gómez Jerez, mother, Primary Education teacher (English) and I have dedicated the last 10 years of my life to the exciting role of an elementary school Principal.

I was born in Seville, but my story is a mix of cultures, with a North American mother and a Sevillian father. During my childhood, my family moved frequently due to my father's job. I studied in 6 different schools during my Basic General Education (EGB), living in cities as diverse as Seville, Jerez de la Frontera (Cádiz), Salobreña (Granada), Estepona (Málaga), Tenerife (Canary Islands) and Marbella (Málaga). ). This varied experience has molded me into a person who is open, sociable and adaptable to change.

Throughout my life, I have missed the opportunity to have childhood friends, but today I feel lucky to have a group of wonderful friends by my side.

After completing my studies in Teaching, I decided to get closer to my mother's culture and moved to Chicago, Illinois (USA), where I worked as a visiting teacher for 3 years. It was, without a doubt, one of the most enriching experiences of my life.

The cold and the distance from my family led me to prepare for the exams to become a teacher in Andalusia in 2007. That year I passed and obtained my position as a public servant.

I have felt the need to start this blog because lately, I have experienced concern regarding the path that the educational system is taking in our country, I am referring to situations that we are seeing daily in schools.

Since confinement in 2020, I have been observing significant changes in children, teenagers and their families that worry me a lot.

My worry reached a point where I felt the need to seek help. It was in 2022 when I decided to enroll in a family school in Marbella. This school, organized by the Proyecto Hombre Association, aims to prevent all types of addictions in young people. In it, fundamental aspects are addressed such as managing rules at home, reducing and controlling emotional tension, healthy habits on social media, learning to resolve conflicts, etc...

These sessions are led by Noemí, an experienced psychologist who makes you feel comfortable from the first moment. The meetings are somewhat similar in tone to group therapy; We sat in a circle, addressed the scheduled topics and, in addition, shared personal situations. We all helped each other, all always guided by Noemí.

For me, this experience was extremely satisfying as a mother and as a teacher, and without a doubt, I would recommend it to anyone who wants to learn or who is interested in improving as a mother or father.

But the family school only increased my concern, and this year I have enrolled in a Master's Degree in which I will learn how to guide families in the educational field and accompany them during the process.

The opportunity to share everything I learn and continue collaborating with the educational community fills me with excitement. This blog becomes the space where I hope to spread knowledge, experiences and perspectives that may be useful to fathers, mothers, teachers and all those interested in education. My goal is to provide ideas, reflections and tools that promote a more enriching and effective educational approach. Together, we can work to build a better educational future for our young people.

I sincerely thank all readers who join me on this path of exploration and learning. Let's talk education, share ideas, and continue building a brighter future for generations to come! Welcome to this space dedicated to the passion for teaching and parenting!"

A hug,

Cris
